Biography
Dr. Muhammad Bin Afsar Jan has revolutionized the field of physical therapy in Pakistan through his clinical expertise, academic leadership, and innovative vision. A graduate of the University of Karachi, he earned advanced degrees in Rehabilitation and Neurology from the University of Queensland, Australia. His journey began at the Special Education Complex in Peshawar and later took him to Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and East Grampians Health Service in Australia.
In 2009, Dr. Muhammad transitioned to academia at Khyber Medical University (KMU), where he became Director/Principal of the Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He played a pivotal role in developing the first Master’s program in Physical Therapy at KMU and contributed to curriculum development, including the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree for the Higher Education Commission in 2011.
In 2015, he joined Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) as the principal of the Rehman College of Rehabilitation Sciences (RCRS) and head of the Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Department. His leadership at RMI has transformed physiotherapy education and practice, culminating in his promotion to Dean of Allied Health Sciences in 2023. His commitment to mentorship and training has impacted countless graduates and trainees, and he has served as visiting faculty at prestigious institutions across Pakistan.
Throughout his career, Dr. Muhammad has been an active member of professional bodies such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) and the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association. He has earned numerous accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2017 and induction into the Khyber Medical University Hall of Fame in 2022. As President of the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (2016-2019), he represented the community nationally and internationally. He also served on the Advisory Committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (2019-2021), further solidifying his influence in healthcare.
